Artist Statement + Notable Details

Alexandra “Ali” Duboy is an NYC based painter and felt fiber artist. On this platform, she gives herself permission to creatively explore and sell what she wants without parameters or cohesion — from figurative paintings to hand-felted wool, embroidery, and custom gifts.

Her paintings begin with the body: figures caught mid-feeling, held inside washes of unsuspecting color. The ongoing series How She Felt — which gives her studio its name — treats each canvas as a record of a specific emotional weather: a storm passing over a reclining figure, a quiet halo around a crouching one, an empty chair at a table by a bright window.

Her fiber practice extends the same instinct into material. Loose, separate strands of dyed wool are wet-felted into single inseparable sheets, then finished with hand embroidery and found treasures — pearls, rhinestones, vintage flowers, zipper-pulls — so that each wall hanging carries both a palette and a memory. Needle-felted botanicals are pinned into shadow boxes like specimens of a good day.

Ali also works by commission, most happily on wedding portraits: send her the photograph you can't stop looking at, and she'll turn it into an original painting that outlasts the flowers.
